BB fertilizer (Bulk Blending Fertilizer) is a fertilizer made by mixing two or more single element fertilizers, compound fertilizers, or organic fertilizers with similar particle sizes in a certain proportion. Its production process is relatively simple, and the core lies in precise ingredients and uniform mixing. The following is its detailed production process:
1、 Raw material preparation
Raw material selection
According to the target formula (such as nitrogen phosphorus potassium ratio, whether it contains trace elements, etc.), select suitable elemental fertilizers or basic fertilizers. Common raw materials include:
Nitrogen fertilizers: urea, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, etc;
Phosphate fertilizers: monoammonium phosphate, diammonium phosphate, superphosphate, etc;
Potassium fertilizers: potassium chloride, potassium sulfate, etc;
Trace element fertilizers: magnesium sulfate, zinc sulfate, borax, etc;
Organic fertilizer (optional): decomposed animal manure, straw powder, etc. (need to be crushed to the appropriate particle size).
Raw material pretreatment
Removing impurities: By screening, magnetic separation, and other methods, impurities such as stones and metal shavings in the raw materials are removed to avoid damaging equipment or affecting fertilizer quality.
Particle size adjustment: Ensure that the particle size of all raw materials is similar (generally controlled at 1-4 millimeters). If the particle size is too large, it needs to be crushed, and if it is too small, it needs to be sieved to ensure mixing uniformity.
2、 Ingredient measurement
Accurately weighing various raw materials according to the preset fertilizer formula is a key step in ensuring the accurate nutrient ratio of BB fertilizer
Small scale production: can be manually weighed, suitable for flexible production of small batches and multiple varieties.
Large scale production: Using automatic measuring equipment (such as belt scales, spiral scales, weight loss scales, etc.), the proportion of each raw material is set by the control system to achieve continuous and accurate automatic batching, with errors usually controlled within ± 1%.
3、 Mixing and stirring
Send the measured raw materials into the mixing equipment for uniform mixing, ensuring consistent distribution of nutrients in the fertilizer. Common equipment includes:
Horizontal spiral belt mixer: suitable for small and medium-sized production, with high mixing efficiency. The material is pushed forward and backward by the spiral belt, and the mixing uniformity can reach over 95%.
Dual axis blade mixer: suitable for mass production, it disperses and mixes materials through high-speed rotating blades, with short mixing time (usually 30-60 seconds) and good uniformity.
Drum mixer: With a simple structure, the material is naturally mixed by rotating the drum, suitable for lightweight or easily clumped raw materials, but with a longer mixing time.
During the mixing process, attention should be paid to controlling the time. If it is too short, the mixing will be uneven, and if it is too long, it may cause different densities of raw materials to separate (such as the separation of heavy phosphate fertilizer and light urea).
4、 Finished product processing
Screening (optional)
If there are a small amount of clumps or oversized particles in the mixed fertilizer, it needs to be screened again by screening equipment (such as vibrating screen) to ensure that the finished particle size meets the standard.
Anti caking treatment (optional)
To prevent BB fertilizer from absorbing moisture and clumping during storage or transportation, a small amount of anti caking agent (such as talc powder, silica powder, surfactant, etc.) can be added after mixing, and attached to the particle surface by spraying or mixing to reduce moisture absorption.
Packaging or bulk
Packaging: For products that require retail, they are packed into woven bags, plastic bags, etc. using an automatic packaging machine, and labeled with information such as fertilizer name, nutrient content, production date, shelf life, etc.
Bulk: Directly transport fertilizers to bulk bins and transport them to users (such as large farms) through dedicated vehicles, reducing packaging costs and suitable for large-scale application.
5、 Quality inspection
Quality inspection is required during the production process and in finished products, with main indicators including:
Nutrient content: Determine the actual content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and trace elements through chemical analysis to ensure consistency with the formula;
Mixing uniformity: Sampling testing is used (such as measuring nutrient deviation of different samples), with a requirement of coefficient of variation ≤ 5%;
Moisture content: Control the moisture content below 2% -5% to avoid clumping;
Particle size: Ensure that the particles are uniform and free of impurities that are too large or too small.
6、 Storage and transportation
Finished products should be stored in ventilated and dry warehouses, avoiding exposure to rain or high temperature and humidity environments; During transportation, handle with care to prevent damage to packaging bags or material layering.
The core characteristics of BB fertilizer production
Simple process: no chemical reaction is required, only physical mixing is needed, and the investment cost is lower than that of compound fertilizers (such as melt granulation compound fertilizers);
High flexibility: The formula can be quickly adjusted according to crop needs and soil conditions to achieve "customized" production;
Nutrient balance: able to match multiple nutrients as needed to meet the fertilization needs of different crops.
In short, the core of BB fertilizer production is "precise batching+uniform mixing", with a short process, low cost, flexible formula, suitable for combining large-scale and personalized production, and widely used in modern agriculture.
